[The Open University of Portugal (Universidade Alberta–UAb)’s] move to online delivery was accompanied by a radical shift in pedagogy, away from a more didactic style of teaching, with an emphasis on comprehension, memorization, and reproduction of correct or standardized answers for assessment, toward a more constructivist approach to learning, based on reflection, discussion, and critical thinking.

The decision to use constructivist-based online delivery for all UAb programs, and to make the change over a period of no more than two years, was [ambitious]. This meant, in effect, redesigning UAb’s entire offerings.
